Metal Separators

Electromagnetic Overband Metal Separators

BAS® high-intensity electromagnetic overband metal separators remove unwanted metals from conveyors and chutes. They can be installed cross-belt or in-line; the cross-belt configuration can be placed anywhere on the conveyor at angles up to 30°, while the in-line configuration is positioned over the conveyor chute at a distance suitable for metal capture and discharge. The separator features two tensioning drums and two belt-tracking rollers in the main body for safe belt alignment, plus two side chutes that prevent metal from entering between the magnetic block and the belt. A direct-coupled drive motor delivers continuous, loss-free power transmission, and conical-locked drums simplify maintenance.

Description

Electromagnetic overband metal separators can be used as either self-cleaning or as electromagnetic manual-plate units. Both systems contain a main magnetic block. Self-cleaning units consist of an endless separator belt running over the magnetic block and a steel chassis. The base electromagnetic separator models sit in an oil bath inside the magnetic block and are cooled by natural convection. For high-current models — depending on application capacity — an additional cooling group (fan and pump) provides forced heat transfer.

In both cross-belt and in-line installations, the separator's length must be at least equal to the conveyor's width. Electromagnetic metal separators have on average twice the magnetic field strength of permanent magnetic separators under the same conditions.
