Electromagnetic Overband Metal Separators

BAS® high-intensity electromagnetic overband metal separators remove unwanted metals from conveyors and chutes. They can be installed cross-belt or in-line; the cross-belt configuration can be placed anywhere on the conveyor at angles up to 30°, while the in-line configuration is positioned over the conveyor chute at a distance suitable for metal capture and discharge. The separator features two tensioning drums and two belt-tracking rollers in the main body for safe belt alignment, plus two side chutes that prevent metal from entering between the magnetic block and the belt. A direct-coupled drive motor delivers continuous, loss-free power transmission, and conical-locked drums simplify maintenance.

Permanent Overband Magnetic Separators

BAS® permanent overband magnetic separators are used as standard to remove unwanted metals from conveyors. The separator consists of a main magnetic block, an endless separator belt, a drive motor and a magnetically isolated steel chassis. Powered by permanent magnets, the MBS series chassis is magnetically isolated and prevents unwanted metal accumulation. Depending on capacity, the range covers compact MBS-E, standard MBS, and high-intensity MBS-H models.

Basic Type Metal Separators

Basic metal separators remove unwanted metals from existing static or moving equipment by replacing or adding components. The most common are magnetic plates, used to remove unwanted ferromagnetic pieces up to 200 mm at short distance from continuously fed belts and conveyors. Plates are mounted at optimal distance to the conveyor where metal is unwanted. High-strength plates are particularly preferred in mining, cement and food crushing industries. Permanent drum types are produced to suit the desired working conditions, diameter and dimensions, installable at conveyor ends or hopper inlets in any size. Magnetic bars are used to remove unwanted ferromagnetic particles of 0.001–50 mm diameter from a maximum distance of 20 mm during production. They are mounted directly on machines or production lines where metal is undesired and are widely used in hygienic food, pharmaceutical and plastic industries; available in various field strengths, diameters and lengths, individually or in bundles. With high-magnetism neodymium magnets up to 12,000 Gauss is achievable. AISI 316 stainless steel tubes with perforated or closed-end designs are available; standard magnetic bars operate up to 80–150 °C.

Eddy Current Non-Ferrous Metal Separators

Eddy-current separators are used to separate non-ferrous metals (aluminium, copper, etc.) from other alloyed metals or non-metallic materials. The feed must first be prepared so that the desired particle sizes are isolated before being fed to the separator. Selecting the correct number of magnetic poles and drum speed for the prepared particle size range is the most critical step. The BAS laboratory selects the optimum eddy-current separator for your particles and runs capacity tests. Mono-layer feeding on the eddy-generating drum is essential for high efficiency, while belt speed and the right vibratory feeder ensure correct centrifugal action — together delivering the most accurate equipment selection and best results.

Electromagnetic Drum Separators

BAS® EMT electromagnetic drum separators are preferred in scrap recycling and metal beneficiation projects. They are suitable for high-capacity metal recovery and beneficiation plants, and are used in systems containing large or sharp pieces such as scrap, blades or ferrous debris.

Stainless Steel Separators

Stainless steel separators are used to separate even the most weakly susceptible paramagnetic metals (AISI 304, AISI 316, etc.). Their magnetic field is on average 10 times stronger than standard magnetic separators, and their separation capability is closer to materials with very low magnetic susceptibility than to ordinary ferrous magnetic materials.

Demagnetizers

Electromagnetic demagnetizing equipment is used to render magnetically induced ferromagnetic materials non-magnetic. They are preferred to enhance the magnetic performance of ferromagnetic materials continuing through beneficiation stages and to maintain flowability and homogeneity of finalised magnetic materials in transfer equipment. Installation is available from DN25 to DN250 for fluid systems, with single-unit operation supported even at high capacities (up to 300 m³/h). A wide range of supply voltages allows easy adaptation to existing installations.
